THE GONZO HERALD
OK kids, sit down and I'll tell you a story...
A story of one man, one newsgroup, and the shared passion of many gonzo fans...
It was called The Gonzo Herald and it was started in 1996 by real-life reporter columnist
Hal Marcovitz. The premise at the time was very promising, when zines were all the rage. The Gonzo Herald
would be published twice a year. I believe it only lasted 5 issues - but it was an incredible effort that
worked on a donation based system.
I can't remember when I began the task of transcribing the articles. It was somewhere around 1998, I believe, at least...
when I was still tapping things out on my old Smith Corona word processor, saving them to a single density disk and
formatting them on SAIT computers...or maybe it was my old NEC. The fog of time envelops me :-)
How long ago it seems, the sentiments you will read within. A lot of the people who wrote these articles have
seemingly disappeared from the newsgroup, even the net all together. Good times with good friends must always
be remembered. You might think, what's up with these fruity coloured pages; that my friend, is old school HTML
and design.
If anyone reading the online versions of The Gonzo Herald sees this, please drop me a line. :-)
