PUBLISHER'S LETTER

Well, I guess Newsweek magazine said it best when it proclaimed last December: "The Doctor is Still In". Those of us who have been following the trials and tribulations of the doctor of gonzo never doubted it. We've stayed faithful all these years adn I think we are all delighted that a whole new generation of fans has discovered the writings of Dr. Hunter S. Thompson

Consider, for example, all that has happened in the past few months:

- an interview with HST in Rolling Stone, marking the 25th anniversary of the publication of Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas

- a new edition of FLLV published in hardback as well as a CD-cassette version of FLLV.

- word that HST is hard at work (well, at least at work) on a book of his letters

- plans to produce a film version of FLLV. By press time, Johnny Depp had been signed to play Raoul Duke. Curious bit of casting, don't you think? (This reporter remains dubious about the whole project. Remember the fiasco that "Where the Buffalo Roam" turned out to be?

In any event, there could be more. Newsweek reports that HST may write a regular column for Rolling Stone and that he wants to finish his aborted novel, Polo is My Life. There may be new hardback editions of Hell's Angels and Fear and Loathing on the Campaign Trail '72. Here are The Gonzo Herald, we're all giddy with anticipation.

Anyway, no changes here. Issue One of The Gonzo Herald was greeted with enthusiasm and everyone gave me the nod to plow ahead with Issue No. 2. Some of you even contributed cash, which was welcome. The message I received from everyone after the publication of Issue One was that they wanted to see more of the same for Issue Two. And by that they mean they want a mix of news about Hunter S. Thompson, reviews of his work and examples of our own original gonzo journalism.

The Gonzo Herald is published twice a year by the Hunter S. Thompson Society, an unincorporated and, in fact, outlaw group of boozers, dopers and perverted sex maniacs. Subscriptions and advertising are free. That's right, free, though donations are always welcome.

Web space for The Gonzo Herald is provided and authored by Christine Othitis, a friendly sort who also authors and maintains The Great Thompson Hunt. Opinions expressed in The Gonzo Herald are not necessarily those of Christine or tekknowledge, the nice people that host TGTH.
