SITE BIBLIOGRAPHY
last updated January 9, 2000
At long last, the collective bibliography for the site only that I've been
promising for over a year (w/thanks to Mr. Benson for
getting my butt in gear). It's a little rough, but will do
for now. A more complete bib can be found in E. Jean Carroll's
Hunter or the one in the back of
Shark Hunt. Everything you read on this site has its basis in
print; nothing is ever made up. Asterisked items indicate that it
was used in one of the three main essays I wrote for a high
school project. Most of these items I also own, and are not for sale.
Only items for sale are.
You can check Root Out Ralph for a Steadman-only
bibliography.

BOOKS ABOUT HST
*Carroll, E. Jean, Hunter, Dutton, New York, 1993.
Klinkowitz, Jerome, The Life of Fiction , 1977
McKeen, William, Hunter S. Thompson , G.K. Hall, Boston, 1991.
Perry, Paul, Fear and Loathing: The Strange and Terrible Saga of Hunter S. Thompson, Thunder's Mouth Press, New York,
1993.
Steadman, Ralph, Gonzo: The Art, Harcourt Brace, 1998
Whitmer, Peter O., When the Going Gets Weird , Hyperion, New York,
1993.
NOTE: Because the last two biographies were so new, they were listed in the bibliography of Hunter
by their working
titles, Fear and Loathing and When the Weird Turn Pro respectively.
I'm quite partial to Hunter ; I've read Paul Perry's bio, and didn't think a whole lot of it. Except for McKeen's book, the other three bios have quite a lot of photos, but Hunter takes the cake. Plus, it's pretty funny (IMHO! Let's face it - no guy could write about what E. Jean did without sounding a bit queer!!)
